DISTRIBUTION: Kenya; S.W. Uganda; Rwanda; S. and E. Zaire; N. Angola; C. Malawi; Zambia; S.W. Tanzania.

COMMENT: Delany, 1975, The Rodents of Uganda, Trustees Br. Mus . Nat. Hist., 165 pp., included nyikae in this species; but Davis, 1975, Part 6.6:2-4, and Ansell, 1978:84, considered it a distinct species.
