Type Locality: "America meridionale;" restricted to Pará, Brazil, by Thomas (1907 b) .

Vernacular Names: Six-banded Armadillo.

Synonyms: Euphractus gilvipes Illiger 1815 ; Euphractus pilosus Olfers 1818 ; Euphractus gylvipes Minoprio 1945 .

Distribution: S Surinam and adjacent Brazil as a northern isolated segment; E Brazil to Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and N Argentina as the main population.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Reviewed by Wetzel (1985 b) and Redford and Wetzel (1985, Mammalian Species, 252).
