Type Locality: Mexico, Colima, 3 mi. (5 km) W of Colima, 1,700 ft. (518 m).

Vernacular Names: Smoky Pocket Gopher.

Distribution: Plain of E Colima ( Mexico).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt) as Pappogeomys fumosus .

Discussion: Included in gymnurus species-group by Russell (1968 b). However, fumosus is likely a species that includes gynmurus, neglectus , tylorhinus , and zinseri ; see Demastes et al. (2002).
