This pantropical lichen has been reported from Africa (e.g., Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa and Zambia), Asia (e.g., Papua New Guinea, Thailand, the Philippines), Australia, South America ( Brazil, the Galapagos Islands) and the USA ( Cáceres 2007; Ertz 2009; Lücking et al. 2011; Bungartz et al. 2013; McCarthy 2014).
