33. Pombalia setigera View in CoL ( A.St.-Hil.) Paula-Souza, comb. nov. ≡ Ionidium setigerum A.St. -Hil. ( Saint-Hilaire 1824a: 252).—Type: BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro, “cueilli près Sumidouro province de Rio de Janeiro ”, January 1819, Saint-Hilaire Catal. C 1-3 (lectotype P 00635608!, designated here by Paula-Souza; isolectotypes P 02141286! P 00635610[righthand specimen]!).

Saint-Hilaire provided only a vague reference regarding the materials he used to describe Ionidium setigerum (“Habitat in cultis sylvisque caeduis dictis Capueiras in provinciis Rio de Janeiro et Minas Geraes”), and there are several specimens at P and MPU that could serve as types. Most of the sheets of Iondium setigerum in Paris are a mix of 2 different gatherings—for instance, the sheet that carries the original description in Saint-Hilaire’s handwriting ( P 00635610) has two branches labelled as B 1-1230 and C 1-3. In some cases, each of two branches on a sheet is given a distinct herbarium number, but to avoid further misinterpretations, the lectotype was chosen from a single-numbered sheet.
