3. Pombalia attenuata (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Paula-Souza View in CoL , comb. nov. ≡ Ionidium attenuatum Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd. (in Roemer & Schultes 1819: 402).—Type: COLOMBIA. Angostura, s.d., Humboldt & Bonpland 1643 (holotype B-W!; isotype P 00604176!).

= Ionidium elatum Turcz. ( Turczaninow 1863: 556) View in CoL Hybanthus elatus (Turcz.) Morton (1944: 80) View in CoL , syn. nov. —Type: MEXICO. s.d., Ghiesbreght 47 (holotype KW, photo!).

Morton (1944) transferred Ionidium elatum View in CoL to Hybanthus View in CoL , accepting the corresponding species. The only original collection known for this name is the holotype deposited in Kiev. It is unlikely that Morton saw that specimen or a photograph of it, he likely based this conclusion on the imprecise description provided by Turczaninow. The analysis of images of the type specimen in KW showed that it belongs to Pombalia attenuata View in CoL . The binomial Hybanthus elatus View in CoL has ever since Morton been erroneously applied, and the earliest available name for the plants formerly referred to by the epithet “ elatus View in CoL ” (sensu Morton) is Pombalia glabra View in CoL .
