Diagnosis. Prothyma (Genoprothyma) tenuipenis is distinguished from the other members of the subgenus by: 1, the small body size; 2, having protarsomeres 1–3 of males dorsally covered by unusually long and dense setae; 3, the unique shape of the aedeagus; 4, the presence of a large group of long spines near the apical orifice (in basal part of endophallus).

Description. Size: TL (without labrum) 8.9–11.5 mm (mean = 9.8 mm, n = 14).

Head: Black; with bluish or coppery reflections or coppery-red with greenish reflections; areas behind the eye and near orbital plates with bluish reflections; genae blue violet; clypeus with greenish reflections; surface glabrous, with two setigerous punctures next to eye, one along frontal margin and one dorsally at center; strong longitudinal striae on orbital plates and vertex; strong transversal striae behind the eyes and on neck; striae becoming obsolete on genae, frons, and clypeus. Head as wide as elytra (mean EW/HW = 1.0). Labrum ochre-testaceous but in some specimens darkened at base, margins in some specimens slightly brownish or blackish. Labrum of male ( Fig. 16c, d View FIGURE 16 ) wider than long (mean LW/LL = 1.2); with four setae located near the margin, two lateral and two apical; with two blunt anterolateral teeth and two outward directed thorn-like anterior teeth at the anteromedian lobe, intermediate space with a large triangular tooth. Labrum of female ( Fig. 16e View FIGURE 16 ) slightly wider than long (mean LW/LL = 1.1), with four setae located near the margin, two lateral and two apical; with two blunt anterolateral teeth and two outward directed thorn-like anterior teeth at the anteromedian lobe, intermediate space with a large triangular tooth. Mandibles brownish, with four teeth, lighter towards base, margins of teeth darker, small area of base testaceous. Labial and maxillary palpi testaceous, the last segment shiny black, in females maxillary palpomeres 1–2 shiny black. Antennae slender, reaching posteriorly to the middle of the elytra in males, shorter in females; scape ochre-testaceous, brownish dorsally; antennomeres two, three and four blackish with metallic luster; scape with one apical seta, the following three antennomeres almost glabrous; antennomeres five to eleven blackish, dull, finely, and evenly pubescent.

Thorax: Pronotum slightly longer than wide (mean PW/PL = 0.9); sides not rounded between the transversal constrictions, nearly parallel sided; glabrous; dull matt with regular transverse wrinkles on disc; black with bluish or coppery reflections or dorsally coppery-red or coppery; with greenish or bluish reflections at base and apex; transversal constrictions with blue reflections; margins bluish or violet; sternae and episternae glabrous, shiny black; mesepisternum of female with a short shallow furrow above.

Elytra: slightly more than twice as long as wide (mean EL/EW = 2.2), parallel-sided, color shining black, with greenish and coppery reflections, reflections bluish or greenish along lateral margin in some specimens; elytral testaceous maculation consists of humeral, lateromedial and preapical dots; the narrow humeral dot is located at the lateral edge; the lateromedial dot is oblique triangular; the preapical dot is comma-shaped or rounded; surface with dense punctures, becoming confluent and forming grooves; these grooves are deep in the apical quarter of the elytra nearest the suture, shallower in the following area up to the margin, at the margin the punctures are isolated; apical margin distinctly rounded and restricted towards middle suture, with a tiny sutural spine. Epipleurae brownish black.

Ventral aspect: Venter glabrous, bluish-green violet; trochanter glabrous, coxa, femur, tibia, and tarsi setose; trochanter and coxa testaceous; femur testaceous, slightly more brownish towards apex; tibia and tarsi brownish.

Aedeagus: ( Figs 17 View FIGURE 17 ) in lateral view slender in the basal third, slightly expanded in the middle and tapering towards the apex, ending in a relatively long and slightly downturned apex (total length 2.0 mm). Endophallus with a large group of long spines near the apical orifice.

Distribution. LUZON— Apayao: Calanasan; Aurora: Dingalan; Ifugao: 30 km S Banaue; Laguna: Santa Maria, iv. 1923 ( Horn 1934: 145); Mountain Province: Barlig; Quirino: Tapsoy, Maddela; Rizal: Tanay; MINDANAO.

Remarks. The report from Marinduque: Bio Boac ( Johnson 2021: 50) is based on a misidentification. It is Prothyma hopkinsi (by comparison with a photo of specimens from Bo Boac, kindly sent by Walter Johnson). The yellow labrum of P. claudinae distinguishes it as a member of subgenus Genoprothyma (also previously noted by Charles Dheurle). Therefore, it is transferred from subgenus Symplecthyma herein and placed into synonymy of P. tenuipenis due to identical external features, the shape of aedeagus, and the unique endophallus structure.
