Remarks. Bates (1881) described E. abstrusus based on a single specimen from Guatemala. Bates (1885) recorded the species from Nicaragua. Chemsak & Linsley (1970) designated a lectotype for E. abstrusus . However, there is no evidence that the species has been described based on more than one specimen. Accordingly, the designation of lectotype has no nomenclatural value since the species has a holotype.
Monné (2022) listed the species from Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. However, Franz (1954) also recorded the species from El Salvador.
The female illustrated here has the general elytral pubescence on anterior 2/3 considerably darker than in the holotype and other specimens already illustrated ( Maes et al. 2010; Monné et al. 2020). However, this is just a specific variation. This is because the pubescent maculae on the same region, yellowish-brown and white, are in the same positions and have a very similar shape.
Material examined. NICARAGUA, Nueva Segovia: km 240, ~ 10 km E Ocotal , 1 female, 12. V .2012, D. Heffern & E. van den Berghe leg. ( DHCO) .
