Type Locality: México, Quintana Roo, Isla Cozumel, 2.5 km N San Miguel.
Vernacular Names: Cozumel Harvest Mouse.
Distribution: Restricted to Cozumel Isl, México.
Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.
Discussion: Subgenus Aporodon , mexicanus species group. A large insular species, posited to share common ancestry with R. gracilis ( Jones and Lawlor, 1965) , a relationship generally supported by allozymic data ( Arellano et al., 2003). See Jones (1982, Mammalian Species, 193).
