Parischnogaster mindanaonis Selis , sp. nov.
( Figs. 48–57 View FIGURES 48–54 View FIGURES 55–57 )
Parischnogaster depressigaster ( Rohwer, 1919) View in CoL : Selis 2015: 135, misidentification.
Diagnosis. The female of this species is similar to the female of P. giglii , from which it can be distinguished by having the yellow patch on the clypeus broadly divided below and having the mesoscutum entirely black-brown. The male can be recognized by the following combination of characters: antennal flagellum without long bristles, F1–F3 flattened below, and tergal organ shallow with a flat bottom and lateral keels ending abruptly posteriorly.
Material examined. HOLOTYPE, ♂ labeled: “Philippines, Mindanao, Agusan, Esperanza / X.2014 / Leg. local collector // Parischnogaster mindanaonis / Selis, sp. nov. / HOLOTYPUS ♂ / Det. Marco Selis 2018” ( MSNVE) . PARATYPES: PHILIPPINES: Mindanao: Agusan, Esperanza, X.2014, 1 ♀ ( MSVI); Agusan , Esperanza , XI.2014, 6 ♂ 13♀ (4♂ 6♀ MSVI, 2♂ 7♀ MSNVE) ; Agusan, Esperanza , XII.2014, 5 ♀ (3♀ MSVI, 2♀ MSNVE) ; Agusan, Esperanza , I.2018, 1 ♀ ( MSVI) ; Compostela, Masara , I.2015, 1 ♀ ( MSNVE) ; Davao, Tamayong, VII.2017 1 ♀ ( MSVI); Gutallac , X.2016, 1 ♀ ( MSVI); South Cotabato, I.2013, 1 ♀ ( MSVI); Zamboanga, Gutalac, XII.2014, 1 ♀ ( MSNVE) .
Description. Male. Body length 9.7–11.5 mm (holotype 11.5 mm); fore wing length 7.9–8.6 mm (holotype 8.3 mm).
Head 1.25× as wide as long in frontal view ( Fig. 50 View FIGURES 48–54 ). Clypeus as long as wide, weakly pointed apically, in lateral view weakly convex. Distance between ocelli shorter than ocellar diameter. Mandibles tridentate, inner tooth very short. Antenna clavate, expanding apically, antennal scape 2.8× as long as its apical width, F1 1.8× as long as its apical width, F2–F5 about as long as wide, F6–F10 wider than long, F11 bullet shaped, 1.5× as long as its basal width, F2–F5 distinctly flattened below ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 48–54 ). Temples very short in dorsal view.
Mesoscutum as long as width between tegulae, strongly convex in lateral view, notaulices present as long distinct furrows, parapsidal sulci clearly marked and long, diverging from lateral margins of mesoscutum. Scutellum strongly convex. Metanotum convex, almost entirely vertical. Propodeum nearly flattened in lateral view, longitudinal median furrow complete from anterior to posterior margin, deep and becoming wider posteriorly ( Fig. 53 View FIGURES 48–54 ). Lateral faces of mesosoma depressed posteriorly, forming deep hairy depressions.
T1 7.7× as long as its maximum width; in lateral view almost linear from base to apex, weakly depressed before apical bulge; in dorsal view weakly expanded apically. T 2 in profile almost linear from base to apex; tergal organ flat bottomed, limited laterally by sharp keels, keels ending abruptly posteriorly ( Fig. 54 View FIGURES 48–54 ).
Anterior lobe of segment 2 of middle tarsus expanded and pointed apically, segment 3 heart shaped. Hind femora strongly curved basally, flattened for entire length. Hind tibiae weakly curved and flattened basally. Third submarginal cell of fore wing 1.2× as high as wide ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 48–54 ).
Clypeus shiny, densely micropunctured. Frons densely covered by shallow small punctures. Gena smooth and without punctures. Pronotum smooth, striate only on ventral corners up to humeral tubercle. Mesoscutum regularly and finely striate. Scutellum and metanotum smooth, with some scattered shallow punctures. Propodeum striate on posterior face, lateral faces finely punctured. Mesepisternum dorsally with fine irregular striae, ventrally smooth. Face up to antennal toruli covered by dense silvery pubescence, above antennal toruli covered by golden pubescence. Whole mesosoma covered by dense yellowish short setae, with some long black setae on scutellum; lateral depression of propodeum entirely covered by extremely dense brownish setae. T1 with long whitish setae laterally. Tergal organ covered by erect brownish setae. T3–T6 with sparse long black setae.
Color. Head black; mesosoma and metasoma brown, darker dorsally; following parts light yellow: elongate lateral spots on clypeus, ventral face of scape, pronotal collar, posterior margin of pronotum, large anterolateral spots on scutellum, slightly incised anterior band on metanotum, triangular spot just below wings on mesepisternum, lunate mark below transverse furrow, dorsal rounded spot on metaepisternum, apical half of posterior face of propodeum, anterior face of fore coxae, dorsal face of median and hind coxae, outer face of fore legs and median femora; following parts yellowish-white: base of T4–T, lateral spots on S2–S3.
Female. Body length 10.0– 12.6 mm; fore wing length 8.4–10.5 mm.
Like male, except: head 1.15× as wide as long in frontal view ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 55–57 ); clypeus 1.1× as long as wide, strongly pointed apically, in lateral view flattened basally and weakly depressed in the apical half; antennal scape 2.9× as long as its apical width, F1 2× as long as its apical width, F2–F6 slightly longer than wide, F7–F9 as long as wide, F10 bullet shaped, 1.35× as long as its basal width; metanotum flattened in lateral view, entirely vertical; propodeum flat in lateral view, median furrow expanding only at apex; lateral faces of propodeum weakly depressed; T1 6.6× as long as its maximum width; T2 normal, not depressed; legs not modified; clypeus smooth with scattered punctures bearing golden setae; lateral faces of propodeum striate; face entirely covered by golden pubescence; metasoma with erect golden bristles.
Color. Brownish-black; mandible, apex of clypeus, inferior margins of mesosoma and S6 reddish; following parts yellow: lateral markings on clypeus from basal margin to apicolateral corners, ventral face of scape, pronotal collar, wide band on posterior margin of pronotum, anterolateral rounded spots on scutellum, posteriorly incised band on anterior margin of metanotum, apical half of posterior face of propodeum, triangular spot below tegulae on mesepisternum, lunate marking below transverse furrow, posterior margin of dorsal metapleural plate, fore coxa, dorsal face of mid and hind coxae, outer face of fore leg, apex of mid and hind femora, outer face of mid tibia, lateral spots on petiole of T2, anterolateral spots on T3 and T5, lateral spots on S2–S3.
Distribution. Philippine Islands: Mindanao.
Etymology. The specific name is refers to the island of Mindanao, where this new species was collected.
