Parischnogaster simillima Selis , sp. nov.
( Figs. 68–74 View FIGURES 68–74 )
Diagnosis. The male of this species can be recognized by: T2 with short basal petiole and shallow tergal organ, flagellum with black bristles between basal flagellomeres, and third submarginal cell broad.
Material examined. HOLOTYPE, ♂ labeled: “PH—Mindanao, Agusan, Esperanza / X.2014 / Leg. local collector // Parischnogaster simillima / Selis, sp. nov. / HOLOTYPUS ♂ / Det. Marco Selis 2018” ( MSVI).
Description. Male. Body length 11.5 mm; fore wing length 9.2 mm.
Head 1.35× as wide as long in frontal view ( Fig. 70 View FIGURES 68–74 ). Clypeus 1.1× as wide as long, weakly pointed apically, in lateral view weakly convex, not demarcated from frons. Distance between ocelli shorter than ocellar diameter. Mandibles tridentate, inner tooth very short, apical tooth long and curved. Antenna weakly clavate, antennal scape 2.9× as long as its apical width, F1 1.8× as long as its apical width, F2 wider than long, F3–F5 about as long as wide, F6–F10 wider than long, F11 bullet shaped, 1.45× as long as its basal width, F2–F5 strongly flattened below, F6–F7 less distinctly flattened ( Fig. 71 View FIGURES 68–74 ). Temples very short in dorsal view, vertex with median longitudinal depression from ocellar area to occipital carina.
Mesoscutum as long as width between tegulae, strongly convex in lateral view, notaulices present as long distinct furrows, parapsidal furrows indistinct. Scutellum strongly convex, nearly gibbous on anterior margin. Metanotum moderately convex, almost entirely vertical. Propodeum in lateral view nearly flattened with a shallow convexity on anterior margin, longitudinal median furrow complete from anterior to posterior margin, deep and becoming wider posteriorly, transition from posterior to lateral faces marked by a longitudinal fold ( Fig. 73 View FIGURES 68–74 ). Lateral faces of mesosoma depressed posteriorly, forming deep hairy depressions.
T1 7.5× as long as its maximum width; in lateral view linear from base to apex except apical convexity; in dorsal view weakly expanded apically. T2 with tergal organ flat bottomed, depression shallow and elongate, limited laterally by rounded longitudinal folds, fold becoming higher in the middle ( Fig. 74 View FIGURES 68–74 ).
Anterior lobe of segment 2 of mid tarsus expanded and pointed apically, with reduced apical spines. Segment 3 of mid tarsus heart shaped, shallowly incised apically, flattened below. Mid femur basally bulging below. Hind femur flattened and strongly curved basally, hind tibia curved basally. Third submarginal cell of fore wings 1.2× as high as wide ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 68–74 ).
Clypeus densely micropunctate. Frons irregularly and finely rugose, sculpture disappearing toward vertex. Gena and vertex smooth and impunctate. Pronotum densely micropunctate, with short transverse striae on ventral corner and posteroventral margin up to pronotal lobe. Mesoscutum with fine and regular striae forming a near circular pattern. Scutellum and metanotum with sparse fine punctures. Posterior face of propodeum obliquely striate, striae running from median line to lateral margins, disappearing on lateral faces which are shiny and micropunctate. Dorsal part of mesepisternum finely obliquely striate, ventral part smooth and impunctate. T1 smooth and shiny, T2–T7 microreticulate, except tergal organ which is smooth with scattered shallow punctures. Sterna punctured like respective terga. Face up to antennal toruli with dense silvery pubescence, bottom of ocular sinus with golden pubescence. Clypeus and underside of head with long silvery setae on apical third. F1–F5 with black setae on articulations. Mesosoma with dense brownish-yellow pubescence, long setae on lateral margins of posterior face of propodeum, black long setae on scutellum and metanotum. Whole mesosoma with short brownish setae, lateral sides of thin part of T1 with long whitish setae, tergal organ with longer brownish setae and some black ones. Hind femur with fringe of long pale setae along ventral margin, hind tibia with series of golden bristles on dorsal margin and short curved white setae on ventral margin.
Color. Head black; antenna, mesosoma and metasoma pale brown; following parts yellow: anterolateral margins of clypeus, pronotal collar, posterodorsal margin of pronotum, small anterolateral spots on scutellum, medially interrupted band on anterior half of metanotum, spots on ventral third of posterior face of propodeum, triangular spot below wing base on mesepisternum, lunate mark below transverse furrow, large spot on posterior margin of dorsal plate of metepisternum, basal band on T4–T7, elongate markings on lateral margin of S2, almost whole S3–S4, lateral margin of S7, outer face of fore leg, outer face of mid femur; ventral face of flagellum orange.
Female. Unknown. Distribution. Philippine Islands: Mindanao. Etymology. The specific name refers to the extreme similarity to Parischnogaster giglii .
