Type material: none designated, non-types 1925.7.9.737–766 from “Terra Nova” expedition in NHML. Distribution : New Zealand

Distribution in New Zealand: North of New Zealand (Tattersall W.M. 1923), Avon-Heathcote estuary, Christchurch ( Jones et al. 1989), Parengarenga Harbour, Northland (AWMM collections) Ecology: Pelagic, littoral (Tattersall W.M. 1923). Remarks: The populations in the South Island of New Zealand are morphologically distinguishable from the populations of the North Island, and possibly are two different species ( Sutherland 1999).
