Bregmatothrips binervis (Kobus) View in CoL
Thrips binervis Kobus, 1893: 158 View in CoL
Diarthrothrips saccharicolus Bianchi, 1945: 275 View in CoL . syn.n.
Described originally from Java, and recorded widely across India with two further synonyms from that country ( Bhatti, 1984), specimens of this species have been studied from various sites in northern Australia between Brisbane, Badu Island (Torres Strait), Darwin and Kununurra. The new synonym is from New Caledonia, and specimens from that territory, including a paratype female, have been compared with specimens from India and Australia. In contrast to species of the B. venustus View in CoL group recognised by Bhatti (1984), the maxillary palps are 2- segmented, there are five setae on antennal segment IV, sternite VII of females has the median pair of setae arising in front of the posterior margin, and the paired processes on the posterior margin of tergite IX in males are stout as in the new species described below.
