Diagnosis. Within the nominotypical subgenus Lamprocoris Stål, 1865 s. str., L. lateralis differs from L. smaragdus Breddin, 1903 ( Malaysia: Perak) by the presence of a wide marginal red stripe of the abdominal venter ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 9 ), and from L. roylii ( Westwood, 1837) (Oriental Region) by its colour pattern (see e.g. Hsiao & Zheng 1977: 62, 63, figs. 291, 292). The fourth species of Lamprocoris s. str., L. obtusus ( Westwood, 1837) ( Indonesia: Java) is a species incertae sedis; according to its brief original description and considering its type locality, it is almost certainly a junior synonym of L. lateralis (see also Vollenhoven 1863: 32).

Distribution. India; Bhutan; Myanmar; Laos!; Vietnam!; China: Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Henan, Sichuan, Xizang, Yunnan; Taiwan!; Indonesia: Sumatra!, Java!, Bali! — New to the fauna of Laos and Vietnam.

Discussion. A type specimen of Ch. formosana (considered as a syntype under Recommendation 73F of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, 4th edition, and designated here as lectotype), deposited at EIHU, perfectly fitting the original description, was examined and found to be conspecific with L. lateralis . Among several specimens of L. lateralis , genitalia of a male from the terra typica (Java) were also examined and found to be identical with those of specimens from Taiwan. Consequently, we consider Ch. formosana as a junior synonym of the latter species.
