Differential Diagnosis. M. integer individuals are recognized among barriotum group members by the lack of an elytral carina, the small size and broad body form (length/width ca. 1.48/0.66), the arcuate elytral margins, and the prominent elytral granules ( Fig. 59 View FIGURE 59 ). The aedeagus of M. integer shows some similarity to that of M. drakensbergensis ( Figs. 63, 64 View FIGURES 63–66 ), a much larger species (ca. 1.89 mm) that has a very different habitus ( Figs. 60 View FIGURE 60 ).

Description. Size (length/width, mm) holotype: body (length to elytral apices) 1.48/0.66; head 0.26/ 0.40; pronotum 0.36/0.49; elytra 0.87/0.66. Dorsum brown to dark brown, except pronotum lighter laterally, maxillary palpi and legs brown, venter dark brown.

Head with labrum, clypeus laterally, and frons laterally microreticulate, dull or feebly shining. Disc of clypeus and frons shining, sparsely finely punctulate; anteocellar sulci moderately deep. Ocelli distinct. Mentum and submentum microreticulate.

Pronotum cordate, widest near midlength; anterior angles rounded, posterior rectangular; sides margined, feebly crenulate; anterior margin shallowly arcuate over median 3/4, without hyaline border; discal reliefs shining only near median foveae, becoming microreticulate and dull laterally, punctures on shining reliefs separated by about 2–3xpd, size smaller than 1xef; anteriorly and posteriorly with large, deep punctures; with 10 distinct foveae as follows: two median, an anterior elongate and round posterior; a small round anterior and a larger, deeper, oblique, oval posterior admedian; and a large anterior and smaller deep posterior adlateral on each side; foveae microreticulate, dull; each puncture with a fine short seta.

Elytra dull, with very interrupted reflections, granules prominent; sides arcuate, apices conjointly rounded, posterior declivity abrupt, summit at about midlength; sutural apices rectangular; sides smooth, weakly explanate. Serial punctures small, on disc slightly smaller than largest pronotal punctures, progressively finer apically, discal punctures separated by about 1xpd; anterior rim of socket of each punctural seta with minute granule. Series 5 and 6 separated by very narrow 6th interval. Interval width on disc about 1xpd, each with unilinear row of granules,; 8th non­carinate. All punctures bearing a short fine indistinct seta.

Thoracic ventrites and abdominal ventrites 1–4 densely clothed with short setae, except glabrous midlongitudinal ridge on proventrite, mesoventrite plaques, and small glabrous strongly shining subtriangular area basomedially on metaventrite. Metaventrite disc with median impression in posterior 1/2. Abdominal ventrites as follow: 5th similarly clothed basally and laterally, leaving a semilunulate posterior area glabrous and shining; 6th glabrous and obsoletely microreticulate, with posterior band of piliferous punctures.

Legs of male with two spiniform setae on apical protarsomere. Femora and tibiae effacedly microreticulate, femora thickened.

Females with explanate margin of elytra slightly wider than in males, apices more distinctly obliquely truncate.

Wings varying from fully developed to reduced to about 1/2 to 3/4 length of elytra.

Aedeagus length ca. 0.29 mm; main­piece slightly arcuate in ventral view, apex produced on left side hence apex appearing notched, in lateral view arcuate, slightly narrowed at midlength; distal piece short, apex upturned in lateral view ( Fig. 63 View FIGURES 63–66 ).

Etymology. Named in reference to the compact body form.

Distribution. Widely, but sparsely, distributed in southern and eastern South Africa, and one locality in easternmost Lesotho ( Fig. 104 View FIGURES 103–104 ).
