The holotype, mounted more or less dorsoventrally, is in good condition, complete. Type locality: Port-au-Prince, Haiti).

Erythmelus longicornis Dozier 1937: 133 View in CoL (holotype female on slide [USNM], labeled: 1. “ Erythmelus longicornis Dozier Sweeping View in CoL low weeds, etc., in beach association. Mani Beach, P.R. Aug. 11–1935 H.L. Dozier”; 2. [red] “ Erythmelus longicornis Dozier View in CoL Type female Type No.71755 U.S. N.M.”, examined. The holotype, mounted dorsoventrally, is in good condition, complete. The USNM Type No.71755, which is indicated on the right (red) label of the holotype slide, is likely incorrect as Dozier (1937) indicated the USNM Type No.51755 for the holotype of this species. Type locality: Mani Beach, near Mayagüez, Puerto Rico [ USA]); De Santis 1979: 369 (catalog). Syn. n.

Redescription. FEMALE (based on the holotype of E. longicornis ). Body mostly dark brown except base (about 2/5) of gaster yellow to light brown, hypopygium brown, posterior half of midlobe of mesoscutum, borders of axilla and scutellum, and dorsellum light brown. Appendages light brown to brown.

Antenna ( Fig. 59 View FIGURES 59–62 ) with short setae. Scape 6.2 x as long as wide; pedicel much longer than F1; all funicular segments at least 2 x as long as wide; F1 the shortest funicular segment, F2 slightly longer than F1 and a little shorter than F3, F3 as long as F4 and slightly longer than F5, F6 the longest funicular segment; F1–F5 without longitudinal sensilla, F6 with 2 longitudinal sensilla; clava 3.8 x as long as wide, with 5 longitudinal sensilla.

Mesosoma. Mesoscutum wider than long, its midlobe finely longitudinally striate and with 1 pair of strong setae. Axillar seta extending almost to 1/3 length of scutellum. Scutellum about as long as mesoscutum, posterior scutellum finely longitudinally striate. Dorsellum broadly angulate posteriorly.

Wings. Forewing ( Fig. 60 View FIGURES 59–62 ) 5.1 x as long as wide; blade slightly infumate behind venation but otherwise hyaline, with setae in the distal 2/5; longest marginal cilia 1.4 x greatest width of wing. Hind wing about 17 x as long as wide, a little shorter than forewing; blade infumate apically; longest marginal cilia 4.1 x greatest wing width.

Metasoma. Petiole wider than long. Gaster longer than mesosoma; ovipositor with a small basal loop, about 7/10 length of gaster, markedly exserted beyond apical gastral tergum (by about 1/3 of ovipositor length) and apex of hypopygium, 2.1 x length of metatibia.

Measurements (in µm). Body 873; mesosoma 303; gaster 387; ovipositor 424. Antenna: scape (including radicle) 158; pedicel 55; F1 30; F2 36; F3 42; F4 42; F5 39; F6 70; clava 145. Forewing 545:106; longest marginal cilia 148. Hind wing 515:30; longest marginal cilia 124.

MALE (holotype). Similar to female except for the normal sexually dimorphic features such as antenna, genitalia ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 59–62 ), and the following. Flagellum 11–segmented, all flagellomeres longer than scape. Forewing ( Fig. 61 View FIGURES 59–62 ) 5.0 x as long as wide; longest marginal cilia 1.6 x greatest forewing width. Gaster about as long as mesosoma .

Measurements (in µm). Body 677; mesosoma 282; gaster 282; genitalia 206. Antenna: scape (including radicle) 45; pedicel 30; F1 61; F2 61; F3 61; F4 61; F5 61; F6 61; F7 58; F8 55; F9 61; F10 61; F11 61. Forewing 576:115; longest marginal cilia 188. Hind wing 515:24; longest marginal cilia 121.

Diagnosis. Member of the flavovarius species group. Among the species of the nominate subgenus that have long funicular segments of the female antenna and lack longitudinal sensilla on F4, E. (E.) noeli is characterized by a very long ovipositor (ovipositor length: metatibia length ratio 2.1:1), which is notably exserted beyond the apical gastral tergum (by about 1/3 of ovipositor length) and apex of the hypopygium.

Distribution. Haiti and Puerto Rico ( USA). The record of this species from Peru by De Santis (1979) (as E. longicornis ) is erroneous because the single female slide-mounted specimen in the USNM, labeled “ Erythmelus longicornis Dozier B.D.B. ’66 Lima, Peru, July 18, 1965 On Urocarpidium K. Raven ” was misidentified by B.D. Burks [it belongs to a different, undetermined species of Erythmelus (Erythmelus) ].
