Type material examined. 2 exx. Lectotype (NHM, here validated): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on glass slide pinned together with the specimen, “LECTO- \ TYPE” [round label with blue border], “1383.” [in Broun’s hand], “Wellington“, “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.”, “ Cyphon \ propinquus ” [in Broun’s hand], “Lectotype ♀ \ Cyphon propinquus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1982” [in Nyholm’s hand]. Paralectotype (NHM, here validated): card-mounted, genitalia mounted on two glass slides pinned together with the specimen, “PARA- \ LECTO- \ TYPE” [round label with blue border], “1383.” [in Nyholm’s hand], “Wellington“[in Nyholm’s hand], “New Zealand. [red underline] \ Broun Coll. \ Brit. Mus. \ 1922-482.” [in Nyholm’s hand], “Paralectotype ♀ \ Cyphon propinquus \ Broun \ det. T. Nyholm 1982” [in Nyholm’s hand].

Remarks. Broun studied two specimens collected by P. Stewart-Sandager from Wellington. According to Nyholm (2000) this species belongs to an undescribed genus.
