Type species: Gymnogryllus leucostictus Burmeister, 1838 View in CoL (= Gryllus elegans Guérin-Méneville, 1834 View in CoL ).

Diagnosis: male pronotum very feebly, if at all, widening in front; anterior and middle tibiae abundantly pubescent; anterior metatarsi long; ovipositor of variable length, never rudimentary ( Vasanth 1993).
