Type material. Holotype: female, Benin, “Bassila, 26–VI–3–VII 1950 ”, “IFA 1950, Dahomey, 26–VI–3–VII, A, Villiers”, “54” ( MNHN).

Description. Female. Body length 16.2 mm; fore wing length 8.9 mm.

Head width (dorsal view) 1.2 × its median length, 1.2 × width of mesoscutum. Head behind eyes (dorsal view) almost parallel-sided in anterior half and distinctly roundly narrowed posteriorly. Transverse diameter of eye (dorsal view) 1.1 × longer than temple. Ocelli medium-sized, arranged in triangle with base 1.4 × its sides. POL 3.5 × Od, 1.5 × OOL. Vertex with small lateral tubercles opposite posterior ocelli. Eye 1.1 × as high as broad. Malar space 0.55 × height of eye, 0.8 × basal width of mandible. Face width 1.15 × height of eye and 1.3 × height of face and clypeus combined. Clypeus strongly convex, with short lower flange. Hypoclypeal depression width 0.6 × distance from edge of depression to eye, 0.3 × width of face. Length of maxillary palpus 1.8 × head height (without mandible). Head below eyes (front view) distinctly and roundly narrowed.

Antenna setiform, more than 40-segmented (apical segments missing). Scape 1.25 × longer than its maximum width. First flagellar segment 3.6 × longer than its maximum width in basal half, 1.1 × longer than second segment; second segment 5.5 × longer than its apical width. Submedian segments 3.5–3.7 × longer than their width

Mesosoma. Length 2.4 × its height. Pronotal neck without pronotal carina. Median lobe of mesoscutum with very shallow median furrow. Notauli entirely deep, wide, coarsely crenulate, fused submedially and following as one wide and deep furrow towards posterior margin of mesoscutum, coarsely rugose-reticulate and with distinct median long carina in posterior half. Prescutellar depression rather shallow, with distinct median and four lateral carinae, almost smooth between striae, medially 0.2 × as long as scutellum. Scutellum with very fine lateral carinae. Metanotum with two short and subparallel carinae and one distinct and short median carinae (dorsal view); with short, wide and subpointed metanotal tooth (lateral view). Sternaulus deep and wide, densely striate with punctation. Metapleural flange without pubescence along posterior margin.

Wings. Fore wing 4.8 × longer than its maximum width. Pterostigma 5.8 × longer than width. Metacarp as long as pterostigma. Second radial abscissa 2.3 × longer than first abscissa, 0.3 × as long as the straight third abscissa, 0.7 × as long as first radiomedial vein. Second radiomedial cell 2.3 × longer than its maximum width, 0.6 × longer than brachial cell. First medial abscissa distinctly sinuate. Recurrent vein about 17.0 × longer than second abscissa of medial vein, 0.6 × as long as first radiomedial vein, 0.35 × as long as second abscissa of basal vein. Nervulus almost interstitial, subperpendicular to anal vein. Brachial cell long, distinctly narrowed towards apex, without medial widening. Hind wing 7.0 × longer than its maximum width. First abscissa of mediocubital vein 0.25 × as long as second abscissa. Second mediocubital abscissa submedially with distinct tubercle, but without additional unsclerotised oblique vein united this tubercle with second abscissa of costal vein. Medial cell with submedial constriction, 12.0 × longer than wide, 0.55 × as long as wing. Recurrent vein straight, antefurcal, unsclerotised, but distinctly pigmented.

Legs. Fore tibia with six short spines arranged in single row. Hind coxa narrow, 2.2 × longer than maximum width, almost as long as propodeum. Hind femur 3.7 × longer than wide. Hind tibia dorsally with three distinct spines arranged in single row. Hind tarsus 0.9 × as long as hind tibia. Hind basitarsus 0.7 × as long as second-fifth segments combined. Second segment of hind tarsus 0.6 × as long as basitarsus, 2.2 × longer than fifth segment (without pretarsus).

Metasoma 1.5 × longer than head and mesosoma combined. First tergite with small dorsope, with small spiracular tubercles situated in basal 0.4, tergite weakly and linearly widened from base to apex, but almost parallel-sided in apical 0.15. Acrosternite of first segment 0.55 × as long as tergite. Maximum width of first tergite 1.8 × its minimum width; length 4.4 × its apical width, 2.4 × length of propodeum. Second tergite with subparallel lateral obtuse carinae in basal half only, which not fused posteriorly with second suture. Median length of second tergite 3.2 × its basal width, 3.0 × length of third tergite. Second suture distinct and narrow, weakly curved medially, strongly curved forwards in lateral quarters. Laterotergites separated on second to third tergites. Ovipositor sheath weakly shorter than body, 1.5 × longer than metasoma, 3.5 × longer than mesosoma, 1.8 × longer than fore wing.

Sculpture and pubescence. Vertex densely punctate-reticulate with dense and fine granulation; frons entirely coarsely rugose. Face entirely densely transversely striate with reticulation between striae; temple finely and densely granulate, almost smooth below. Mesoscutum densely and finely granulate-punctate, with dense rugulosity along notauli, with rugosity in rather narrow area in medioposterior half and with distinct median longitudinal carina in basal half. Scutellum densely and finely granulate. Mesopleuron longitudinally striate in upper half, densely and finely punctate with reticulation in lower half. Propodeum without areas, entirely densely rugoseareolate. Hind coxae entirely densely granulate, dorsally with dense transverse striation. Hind femur entirely finely and very densely granulate. First tergite almost entirely coarsely rugose-areolate, with striation apically. Second tergite distinctly and densely longitudinally striate with small and dense rugulosity between striae, densely granulate laterally. Third tergite almost entirely very densely granulate, additionally with fine striation in basal half. Fourth-sixth tergites mostly very densely granulate, but almost smooth apically. Vertex entirely with numerous, very dense, semi-erect, rather short pale setae, additionally with sparse long setae. Mesoscutum entirely with numerous, very dense, semi-erect and short white setae. Mesopleuron entirely with numerous, dense, rather short and semi-erect pale setae. Hind tibia dorsally with dense, short, rather long and semi-erect yellow setae, length of long setae 0.3–0.4 × maximum width of hind tibia.

Colour. Body light reddish brown, faintly darkened dorsally. Antenna reddish brown to dark reddish brown, two basal segments yellow. Palpi brownish yellow. Legs yellowish brown to light reddish brown, fore and middle coxae, trochanters and fore femur yellow to brownish yellow. Ovipositor sheath black. Fore wing faintly darkened, veins dark brown, parastigma brownish yellow. Pterostigma dark brown.

Comparative diagnosis. This species belong to the morphological group with very long second metasomal tergite (together with D. ferrugineiceps Enderlein and D. madagascarus sp. nov.). D. beninus sp. nov. differs from D. ferrugineiceps by having the malar space long (short in D. ferrugineiceps ), face wider (narrow in D. ferrugineiceps ), nervulus of fore wing subinterstitial (distinctly postfurcal in D. ferrugineiceps ), hind coxa, first and second metasomal tergites longer (shorter in D. ferrugineiceps ).
