The species C. asper is regarded as being present off the Azores (GBIF occurrences).

Two specimens are deposited in the fish collections of the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, MNHN No. 2009-0420, 25.4680º W, 39.4180º N, 17 Oct. 1971 ; MNHN, No. 2009-0419, 25.4680º W, 39.4180º N, 17 Oct. 1971.

In 2009 the specimens were re-evaluated and identified as Coryphaenoides sp. The occurrences from the Azores are therefore considered as doubtful and the presence of this species off the Azores should not be accepted. For this reason this species is not counted in the present list.
