Redescription. Body small, light to dark brown. First 4 antennomeres, maxillary palpi, and legs light brown and elytra a little pale with anterior, posterior, and medial margins slightly darker. Length [average] male, 3.0 mm; female, 3.2 mm.
Male. Head ( Figs. 10A, B) pentagonal to subtriangular, widest at eyes (in some cases at temples). Disc a little rugose on basal half, not pubescent. Clypeus subrectangular, as long as almost 1/3 head length, slightly depressed in central part, surface glabrous, coriaceous and slightly punctate; anterior margin truncate, slightly beyond anterior margin of supra-antennal ridges, with two small denticles near middle and shallowly emarginate between, in some cases with extra denticle at each end. Epistomal suture with lateral portions lightly incurved and running posteriorly to level of anterior margin of eyes. Vertex slightly convex but flat anteriorly, coriaceous near clypeus, posterior part weakly limited in median; mid-longitudinal suture absent or extremely feeble if visible, paralateral sutures obsolete. Eyes with fine facets, usually shorter than temples (but in some cases not), convex. Temples rugose, and dilated posterolaterally. Occipital suture with middle portion punctate and feeble in some cases; nuchal ridge present only at either side and extending to lateral plate, dorsal basal ridge present.
Mandible ( Fig. 10D) stout, falciform, strongly curved at middle; two denticles on inner edge, one near middle and one near apex. Antenna (type I) almost equal to head and pronotum together, with apical antennomere varying as long as two or three preceding together.
Pronotum transverse, broadest at near anterior 1/3, as wide as head or a little wider in some cases. Disc 3- sulcate (as Fig. 1H), median sulcus and two paramedial sulci deep and punctate; two paralateral depressions shallow, rugose, and punctate; lateral margin even and smooth across length, posterolateral angles prominent. Elytra translucent, sparsely punctate, and not rugose, lateral longitudinal ridge absent.
Abdomen coriaceous and pubescent, broadest at segment V. Sternite VII ( Fig. 10F) with shallow emargination in middle of posterior margin, on each side with small tooth. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 10G) with area anterior to basal ridge strongly sclerotized, with subbasal ridge interrupted medially, with depression in center; posterior margin deeply bi-emarginate forming three lobes; median lobe with apex rounded, with mid-longitudinal internal ridge on inside surface, beside with another two curved internal ridges, composing darkened crest-shaped patch; lateral lobes triangular. Tergite X ( Fig. 10I) longer than wide, with anterior margin straight and broader, and posterior margin narrower and a little emarginate, with two lines of setae on haired posterior part.
Aedeagus ( Figs. 10K–N). Median lobe elongated and parallel-sided, ventral edge of apical orifice with two long and thin projections, with sclerite-like structures in apical part of median lobe; apico-medial hook with apex bifurcate, with C-shaped open loop at near base; dorsal membranous area covering most of dorsum and nearly across length of median lobe. Parameres arm-like, with apex enlarged, with small process on lateral surface, at corner of each piece with subrectangular process medially directed and furnished with long seta, with tiny notch near base of paramere.
Female. Head ( Fig. 10C) pentagonal and always narrower than pronotum; clypeus subquadrate; anterior margin lightly rounded; vertex flat, posterior part separated from neck by occipital suture; mid-longitudinal suture and paralateral sutures invisible; eyes about 3 times as long as temples, convex; occipital suture with median portion present and obvious. Mandible ( Fig. 10E) slender, sharply pointed at apex, and less curved, two denticles closely situated in inner surface.
Abdominal sternite VII with posterior margin straight. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 10H) with posterior margin broadly rounded, but protruding in middle. Tergite X similar to male.
Spermatheca ( Fig. 10J) comma-shaped, basal portion strongly bulbous, sharply attenuated near middle, apex pointed.
Distribution. China (Fujian, Shanghai, Taiwan, Yunnan); Philippines; Malaysia; Vietnam; Laos; Korea; Japan.
Remarks. O. lucidulus is allied to O. pallidipennis : both share almost the same pattern of darkened crestshaped patch. Yet this fist one differs from the latter by the combination of the more stout mandibles (male), the obvious teeth on the posterior margin of male sternite VII, the less protruding area anterior to the basal ridge on sternite VIII, the different shape of apico-medial hook on aedeagus, and the ventral process of paramere without a tiny curved projection. In addition, the body color varies in the specimens examined here: those from Laos are dark while those from Shanghai, Taiwan, Fujian, Malaysia, and Vietnam tend to be as light as O. pallidipennis . There are two types of the clypeal anterior margins of males ( Figs. 10A, B). The males with clypeal anterior margin as shown in Fig. 10B, are similar to that of O. pallidipennis ; but the clypeal denticles of O. pallidipennis are more protruding and distinct.
The synonymy of O. lucidulus with O. ginyuenensis was suggested by P. M. Hammond but was not published. After careful examinations of all the material we confirmed this synonymy. Another synonymy of O. takahashii with O. lucidulus was proposed based on the comparisons of the paratype of O. takahashii and the lectotype of O. lucidulus and their original as well as subsequent descriptions.
