Etymology. This epithet refers to the insect’s large size.

Remarks. The wide pronotum and short tapering elytra will distinguish this species from all but subafricana from which it may be separated by the characters of the genitalia and the shorter and less setiferous rows 2 and 3 of the mentum.

Type data. Holotype: ♂, Andasibe N.P., Circuit Indri 2, sifting, 20.xi.2010, S. Rahanitriniainia ( BMNH). Paratypes: 2♂ 1♀, same data as holotype. 1♂, Ambohitantely Spec. Res., ABT/ Nov/2011/11, sifting forest litter, Winkler app. extr., S.18˚10’52.6” E.47˚17’22.5”, 1497 m, 18.xi.2011, L.S.Rhanitriniaina ( BMNH).
