Type locality. Comunidade São Vicente , Rio Liberdade, Ipixuna, Amazonas State, Brazil.

Diagnosis. Crown, pronotum, mesonotum, and commissural margins of forewings (Figs. 21–23) with bright orange maculae. Pygofer lobes (Fig. 25) without apical processes; posterior margins rounded. Aedeagus (Figs. 29, 30) with shaft curved dorsally; apex with pair of elongate spiniform apical processes, which are parallel and directed posteroventrally.

Measurements (mm). Males: body length, 5.3–5.8; crown length, 0.4; transocular width, 1.3–1.4; interocular width, 0.5–0.6; maximum pronotum width, 1.3–1.4; forewing length, 4.4–4.9. Females: body length, 5.8–6.0; crown length, 0.4; transocular width, 1.4; interocular width, 0.6; maximum pronotum width, 1.4; forewing length, 4.8–5.0.

Description. Head (Figs. 21–24), in dorsal view, with anterior margin rounded; crown median length threetenths transocular width; lateral frontal sutures not reaching ocelli; texture shagreen, except in colored areas. Pronotum (Figs. 21, 24) slightly wider than transocular width; lateral margins angulate; dorsopleural carina inconspicuous; posterior margin straight; texture smooth with transverse striae. Mesonotum (Fig. 21) with scutum smooth and scutellum shagreen. Forewings (Figs. 21, 22) with conspicuous venation; three closed anteapical cells, median anteapical cells slightly longer than others. Hind legs with femoral setal formula 2+2+1; tibiae with rows AD and PD both with 8–9 long cucullate setae intercalated by 0–3 shorter cucullate ones; first tarsomeres with length subequal to combined length of second and third ones, each posterior margin with three platellae between pair of outer slightly longer cucullate setae.

Coloration. Crown (Fig. 21) with pair of median black maculae, with two discolored oval areas inside; pair of subtriangular maculae adjacent to posterior margin and compound eyes, and anterior tip of lateral frontal suture, orange; inner margins of compound eyes and surrounding area to ocelli, ivory. Ocelli red. Face (Fig. 23) stramineous with dark-brown areas at frontoclypeus and lateral margins of genae; genae with elongate yellow maculae below compound eyes. Pronotum (Fig. 21) dark-brown with several ivory speckles (may be confluent); pair of orange spots near anterior margin, behind compound eyes. Mesonotum (Fig. 21) discolored, appearing ivory; with paired lateral orange maculae at anterior half continuing orange lateral borders. Forewings (Figs. 21, 22) with coria translucent brown, veins marked with dark brown; clavi dark brown, base with orange maculae, veins marked with translucent brown. Thoracic venter mostly stramineous. Legs with dark-brown markings. Male and female abdomen dark-brown dorsally, mostly stramineous ventrally.

Male genitalia. Pygofer lobes (Fig. 25), in lateral view, much longer than high (about 2.5x); subrectangular; posterior margins rounded; base of ventral margins thickened; long macrosetae distributed near dorsal margin at midlength of lobe; microsetae distributed on dorsal half. Valve (Fig. 26), in ventral view, trapezoidal; wider than long. Subgenital plates (Figs. 25, 26), in lateral view, as long as pygofer apex; basal third without transverse unpigmented line; ventral surfaces with few uniseriate robust macrosetae and many short and fine microsetae. Connective (Fig. 27), in dorsal view, Y-shaped; apex fused with aedeagus preatrium. Styles (Figs. 27, 28), in dorsal view, with apical fourth wide and appearing bifid due to elongate preapical lobe; mesal rami acute and curved outwards, bearing spine and some fine microsetae; lateral rami with few microsetae. Aedeagus (Figs. 29, 30), in lateral view, with dorsal apodeme well developed; shaft short and tubular, slightly curved dorsally; apex with pair of long and acute spiniform straight processes, which are parallel to each other and directed posteroventrally.

Remarks. Metacephalus sakakibarai sp. nov. is similar to M. adustus sp. nov., both species sharing the absence of pygofer processes (Fig. 25), absence of a dorsal preapical broad aedeagal process (Fig. 29), and presence of pair of aedeagal apical processes (Figs. 29, 30). However, M. sakakibarai can be distinguished from the latter and other Metacephalus species by its: (1) male pygofer without processes (Fig. 25) and with rounded apex; (2) aedeagal shaft (Fig. 29) slightly curved dorsally, without a dorsal preapical broad process, and with apical processes directed posteroventrally; and (3) unique color pattern of head and thorax (Figs. 21–23).

Etymology. The specific epithet is in honor of Dr. Albino Sakakibara for his important contributions to the taxonomy of Neotropical membracoids.
