Remarks:

Kluge (1993) synonymized Liasis fuscus Peters, 1873 with Liasis mackloti Duméril & Bibron, 1844. However, Rawlings et al. (2004) demonstrated that specimens from Queensland (the type locality of this taxon), the Torres Strait islands (Saibai), and New Guinea form a well-supported clade, which is considered the sister group to the clade comprising the Northern Territory and Indonesian populations. Also see comments on Katrinus . Henderson and Powell (2007) did not recognize any subspecies within Liasis fuscus , a position followed herein. Some authors refer to this taxon as Liasis mackloti Duméril & Bibron (e.g., Hay 2007).
