Etymology. The epithet of this new species is derived from the somewhat intermediate character between congeners within the C. laeticulus speciesgroup and C. morulus species-group.
Diagnosis. This species differs from other congeners by the following combination of characters: body dark reddish brown; apical margin of abdominal tergite VII widely rounded; metathoracic discrimen absent; subcoxal lines on abdominal sternite III absent; pro- and mesotarsal segments II and III of males moderately dilated; tegmen long, subparallel-sided at basal half, then strongly convergent apically; TL/TW = 2.32 (n = 1); apical margin of tegmen narrowly rounded in ventral view; median lobe subparallel-sided; apical margin of median lobe truncate; apices of gonocoxites square, with apicolateral corners widely rounded.
Similar Species. This new species is similar to C. morulus in having a dark reddish brown body coloration, but can be distinguished by the following combination of characters: apical margin of abdominal tergite VII widely rounded; metathoracic discrimen absent; metanepisternum densely punctate; abdominal sternite III without subcoxal lines; tegmen strongly convergent apically from basal half in ventral view.
Description. Length 1.88–2.03 (1.95) mm, width 1.53–1.70 (1.62) mm, depth 0.92–1.02 (0.97) mm (n = 2). Male. Body ( Fig. 15G View Fig ) oval; dorsal disc dark reddish brown; apical half of head, mouthparts, antennal segments I–VIII, lateral margins of pronotum, venter of head, hypomera, elytral epipleura, and legs paler. Head: Dorsal disc densely punctate; interspaces reticulate. Labrum feebly notched at middle. Antenna ( Fig. 21C View Fig ) with club long and large, ACL/ASI-VIII = 0.77 (n = 1); antennal segment XI with 2 oval antennal sensillae; approximate ratio of each segment (n = 1) 4.23: 2.70: 2.30: 1.37: 1.73: 1.20: 1.00: 1.55: 3.00: 3.31: 6.27. Pronotum: 3.24–3.28 (3.26) times as wide as long (n = 2); disc densely punctate; disc with 2 kinds of punctures, large punctures, slightly smaller than eye-facet, and minute punctures; interspaces reticulate. Scutellum with disc densely punctate; punctures on disc similar to those of pronotum; interspaces reticulate. Elytra: 0.93–0.96 (0.94) times as long as wide (n = 2), 3.54–3.61 (3.58) times as long as pronotum (n = 2), subparallel-sided from base to basal 1/3; each elytron with 9 regular rows of punctures about as large as eye facet; punctures on interstices similar to those on pronotum; abdominal tergite VII with apical margin widely rounded. Venter: Prosternum strongly convex along midline, with a tuft of setae at middle. Metaventrite strongly convex, with axillary space; metathoracic discrimen absent. Metanepisternum densely punctate. Abdominal sternite III without subcoxal lines; lateral margins of abdominal sternite VII serrate. Legs: Slender; pro- and mesotarsal segments I–III moderately dilated; tarsal claws simple. Genitalia: Tegmen ( Fig. 21A View Fig ) subparallel-sided at basal 1/2, then strongly convergent apically; TL/TW = 2.32 (n = 1); apical margin of tegmen narrowly rounded in ventral view; median lobe ( Fig. 21B View Fig ) subparallelsided in ventral view; apical margin of median lobe truncate, shallowly emarginate at middle in ventral view; sclerites of internal sac as in Fig. 21B View Fig .
Female. Prosternum without tuft of setae at middle. Pro- and mesotarsal segments I–III more weakly dilated than those of males. Ovipositor ( Fig. 21D View Fig ) with squared apices of gonocoxites; apicolateral corners of gonocoxites widely rounded.
Distribution. Peru (Map 5).
Comments. Cyclocaccus intermediatus has some characters of the C. laeticulus species-group, as follows: apical margin of abdominal tergite VII widely rounded; subcoxal lines on abdominal sternite III absent; pro- and mesotarsal segments II and III of males moderately dilated; and tegmen narrowing to apically in ventral view. However, it differs in the following combination of characters that constitute the basis for including it in the C. morulus species-group: prosternum strongly convex along midline, with tuft of setae at middle; metanepisternum densely punctate; lateral margins of abdominal sternite VII serrate; apices of gonocoxites square.
