Pseudosmittia togadistalis Sasa, Watanabe et Arakawa 1992: 231 ; Yamamoto 2004: 89, Saether 2006: 41 .

Material examined: JAPAN: Honshu, Toyama Pref .. Toga-Mura , Yachidani , holotype male, 8 xii 1992, M. Watanabe & R. Arakawa (NMST No. A 191: 95). Paratypes males, females, as holotype (NMST Nos. A 191: 76, 96) .

Diagnostic characters: The well sclerotized hook-like apical projection of the phallapodeme ending in 2–3 distinct, sharp teeth ( Fig. 34 B ) will separate the species from all other species of the Pseudosmittia complex

Although no lateral spinules of the virga were observed they could well be present, but weak as in the rest of the annulata group. However, the placement within Hydrosmittia is tentative as the species falls outside the genus in some parsimony tests and the immatures are unknown. We regard the absence of oral projections on the transverse sternapodeme as a synapomorphy with the rest of the annulata group and the presence of two apical teeth on the phallapodeme, although unsclerotized, present also in H. tenuistylata as a likely synapomorphy.

The species is redescribed by Saether (2006: 41).

Distribution

The species is known only from the type locality in Japan .
