Median antepronotal lobes only slightly narrowed in P. gracilis and P. guineensis ; anal lobe of wing weak or absent, Cu 1 slightly to strongly sinuous, VR lower than 1.50 except in P. holsatus , postcubital fork absent; oral projections of transverse sternapodeme weak or, in P. guineensis , absent; virga with groups of needle-like spinules in addition to median spine in P. gracilis and P. spinispinata , virga very long except in P. gracilis and P.holsata ; superior volsella present and bulge-like; inferior volsella with short and weak accessory lobe; crista dorsalis evident except in P. guineeensis . Female antenna without subapical seta; female tergite IX undivided. Immatures known only from P. holsata . Pupa with shagreen covering most of tergite IX, with pair of posterolateral mounds each carrying two strong contiguous teeth; sternal conjunctives VIII/IX in male with spinules; reduced anal macrosetae present. Posterior parapods of larva with 5–6 claws; anal tubules with 1–2 constrictions.
