Type material: Holotype male, AUSTRALIA: Western Australia, 4 km w. King Cascade , 15.38 0 S 125.15 0 E, camp site, 12–16.vi.1988, T. A. Weir ( CSIRO).

Diagnostic characters: The broadly triangular anal point with straight sides and pointed apex and with microtrichia and setae together with the posterior placement 0n the gonocoxite of the long and slightly curved inferior volsella will separate the male imago from other members of the group.

Etymology: From the Latin teres, rounded and cristata, with keel, referring to the rounded crista dorsalis.

Male imago (n = 1)

Total length 1.49 mm. Wing length 0.74 mm. Total length/wing length 2.01. Wing length/length of profemur 2.83. Coloration yellowish brown with dark brown vittae and markings.

Head ( Fig. 62 B View FIGURE 62 ). AR 0.73. Terminal flagellomere 201 µm long, no strong apical seta. Temporal setae 5, consisting of 2 inner verticals and 2 outer verticals; no postorbitals. Tentorium 82 µm long, 14 µm wide. Cibarial pump and stipes as in Fig. 62 D View FIGURE 62 . Stipes 78 µm long, 25 µm wide. Palpomere lengths (in µm): 14, 25, 42, 55,73. Third palpomere with 4 pin-shaped sensilla clavata.

Thorax ( Fig. 62 D View FIGURE 62 ). Antepronotum with 1 lateral setae. Dorsocentrals 12, acrostichals 2, prealars 4. Scutellum with 4 setae.

Wing ( Fig. 62 C View FIGURE 62 ). VR 1.67, postcubitus simple. Anal lobe reduced, but wing not cuneiform. Costa not extended. R 4+5 ending far proximal to apex of M 3+4; Cu 1 straight. Brachiolum with 1 seta, other veins bare.

Legs. Spur of front tibia 30 µm long, spurs of middle tibia broken, of hind tibia 37 µm and 25 µm long. Width at apex of front and middle tibiae 17–18 µm, of hind tibia 29 µm. Comb of 12 setae, 21–34 µm long. All tarsi lost. Lengths (in µm) of front to hind femur: 261, 306, 306; of front to hind tibiae: 297, 302, 306.

Hypopygium ( Fig. 62 F View FIGURE 62 ). Anal point 18 µm long, with about 8 lateral setae; laterosternite IX with 3 setae. Phallapodeme 49 µm long; transverse sternapodeme 27 µm long. Virga ( Fig. 62 E View FIGURE 62 ) 21 µm long. Gonocoxite 114 µm long, with 25 µm long digitiform inferior volsella reaching to 0.82 gonocoxite length. Gonostylus 45 µm long, with weak rounded preapical crista dorsalis and megaseta only 3 µm long; HR 2.56, HV 3.30.

Distribution

The species is only known from the type locality in Western Australia .
