Material examined: BRAZIL: Rio de Janeiro State, Rio de Janeiro, FIOCRUZ Campus , holotype male, 26 iv 1992, Nùcleo de Chironomidae (IOC) .

Diagnostic characters: The imagines differ from other members of the genus by having an apical elongation of the third palpomere carrying 5–7 sensilla clavata.

The male and female imagines are redescribed by Andersen et al. (2010: 45). It appears to be widespread in Central and South America.
