Genus Konarus Bamber, 2006 View in CoL
Diagnosis of female (modified from Bamber, 2006): robust leptocheliid, body about 5 to 6 times as long as wide, with second thoracomere demarcated dorsally on cephalon; antennule of three longer articles, flagellum apparently fused to distal article, proximal article stout, about twice as long as wide or less, second article shorter than third; eyes present; second article of the antenna with flange-like expansion of dorsal margin but without distal spines; all or two distal maxilliped endite spines elongate, about three times as long as wide; maxilliped bases with 4 or 5 distal setae; cheliped basis with mesial dorsodistal setose tubercle, distal margin of cheliped carpus extended as a cuff overlapping chela; unguis of pereopod 1 longer than dactylus; dactylus and unguis of posterior pereopods fused into claw; each pleopod with single dorsal plumose seta on basis; uropod exopod of two segments, endopod of six segments.
The generic diagnosis has been expanded from that of Bamber (2006) to include features consistent between the two described species, which previously may have been species-specific, and modified to incorporate variation in the maxilliped setation/spination between the two. The attachment of the coxal sclerite of the cheliped to the cephalon was not clearly observed. The male of this genus is yet to be described.
