Diagnosis. This is the only species of Zadbimyia with a furcate CuA ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 B). The parameres have a pair of erect, posteriad-directed processes and a somewhat frayed apex ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 C).

Other male characters. Body length 1.6 mm. Head. Eye strongly narrowed ventrally, eye bridge 8–9 ommatidia long dorsally. Scape length 1.5 × pedicel length. With 19–20 flagellomeres. Fourth flagellomere ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 B): neck as long as node, with microtrichia basally. Clypeus asetose. Maxillary protuberance prolonged. Palpus with 2 elongate-cylindrical segments. Terminalia. Gonocoxites wider than in other Zadbimyia , ventral emargination large, broadly U-shaped, membranous at base of U ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 A). Gonostylus evenly curved, evenly tapered on apical half, narrowly rounded apically ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 A). Ejaculatory apodeme as long as parameres, ducts of accessory glands indistinct ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 C). Parameres ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 C): basal portion subtrapezoid, with small, strongly sclerotized apodemes; apicomedial portion narrow, 3 times longer than wide; processes arising at right angle from strongly sclerotized bases.

Etymology. The name, a noun in apposition, refers to the Biological Station Las Alturas in the Talamanca Mountains, the type locality of this species.
