Typhlodromips cameroonensis sp. nov.

Material Examined

Holotype female and 1 paratype female from an unknown plant, Mankon village , 05°58'26" N x 10°05'46" E, Bamenda, Cameroon, 26 February 2004, altitude 1251 m, coll. C. Zundel, deposited at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Insect Museum (IITAIM), Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

Female ( Figs 2A–2D ) (2 specimens measured) Dorsum. Dorsal shield smooth, 389 (387–390) long x 207 (205–208) wide at widest level of the proscutum. Setae j1 21 (19–22), j3 34 (32–35), j4 12 (10–13), j5 12 (11–13), j6 12 (11–13), J2 12 (11–13), J5 6, z2 17 (16–18), z4 30 (29–30), z5 11 (10–11), Z1 13, Z4 60 (59–61), Z5 69 (67–70), s4 51, S2 14 (13–14), S4 11, S5 11, r3 21 (19–22), R1 11 (10–11). Setae Z 4 and Z5 slightly serrate; other setae smooth .

Peritreme. Extending forward to the level of insertion of j1.

Venter. All shields clearly discernable, sternal and genital shields smooth, ventri­anal shield slightly reticulate. Sternal shield with posterior margin concave, three pairs of setae and two pairs of lyrifissures. Setae St4 on distinct metasternal shields. Distances between setae St1–St3 71 (70–72), St2–St2 74, St5–St5 75 (74–75). Ventri­anal shield sub­quadrate, 120 (112–128) long, 122 (118–125) wide at level of Zv2 and 98 (96–99) wide at level of anus; anterior margin convex; with three pairs of pre­anal setae (Jv1, Jv2, Zv2) and a pair of relatively large pores mesad of Jv2. Soft cuticle surrounding shield with two pairs of metapodal shields and 4 pairs of ventral opisthosomal setae (Jv4, Jv5, Zv1, Zv3).

Chelicera. Movable digit 35 long, apparently with three teeth; fixed digit 32 long, apparently with seven teeth.

Spermatheca. Calyx cup­shaped, 15 (14–16) long; atrium distinct.

Legs. With blunt­tipped macrosetae on all legs, except macroseta on tarsus IV which is sharp­tipped: Sge I 34 (32–35), Sge II 30, Sge III 29, Sti III 29, Sge IV 47 (46–48), Sti IV 32, and St IV 71 (70–72). Chaetotaxy of genu II 2­2/0,2/0­1; genu III 1­2/1,2/0­1.

Male Unknown.

Notes

This species is most similar to T. arbuti ( DeLeon 1961) , which however has the ventrianal shield distinctly longer than wide, and has much longer macroseta on tarsus IV.

Etymology

The epithet cameroonensis refers to the country where the type specimens were collected.
