Species Xeromys myoides Thomas 1889
Discussion: Xeromys Division. Member of the Australian Old Endemics ( Musser, 1981 c:166) or Hydromyini of Baverstock (1984) and Lee et al. (1981). Xeromys is phylogenetically distantly related to Hydromys ( Watts et al., 1992) , and albumin immunology allies Xeromys with Crossomys (but see generic account), Leptomys , and Pseudohydromys (which includes Neohydromys and Mayermys ) in a clade that is part of a larger assemblage, the Hydromyini, which contains genera in our Hydromys , Pseudomys , and Uromys Divisions (the "Australasian clade" of Watts and Baverstock, 1994 b, 1995 b, 1996).
