Discussion: Matschie (1895), Pocock (1916 a), Coetzee (1977 b), Kingdon (1977), and Meester et al. (1986) included Galeriscus Thomas (1894) . Rosevear (1974) believed that no one had advanced any "reasoned argument" for combining Galeriscus with Bdeogale , and followed Schoutenden (1945) and Hill and Carter (1941) who considered them distinct; all have agreed that jacksoni and nigripes are sister taxa.
