Type species: Coecilia oxyura Duméril & Bibron, 1841 by subsequent designation of Noble (1924). Diagnosis: The only ichthyophiids with tentacular apertures far forward, below the nares. Distribution: India.

Content: Seven species ( malabaricus , oxyurus , narayani , menoni , interruptus , gansi , oommeni ).
