7. Siphonops Wagler, 1828

Type species: Caecilia annulata Mikan, 1820 ( Fig. 9) by original monotypy.

Diagnosis: The only siphonopids with the tentacles closer to the eyes than to the nares, no secondary annuli or scales, no diastemata between vomerine and palatine teeth series, and eyes not under bone. Distribution: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Paraguay, Venezuela. Content: Five species ( annulatus , hardyi , insulanus , leucoderus , paulensis ).
