Type Locality: Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Campos do Goita Cazes, Villa São Salvador.

Distribution: California to Texas ( USA), south to Zacatecas and Hidalgo ( Mexico); N Venezuela, W Ecuador and W Peru, Bolivia, N Argentina, Paraguay, and E Brazil; Cuba.
Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Does not include trumbulli ; see Eger (1977). The large geographic gap between the North American and South American ranges of this taxon suggests that this complex may include more than one species.
