Both H. keithlangdoni and H. kazumifukunagae have the ovipositor sheath and antenna of ♀ medially white or ivory combined with a strongly widened vein 1Cua of forewing which is shorter than curved vein cu-a. Differs from H. kazumifukunagae by the shorter ovipositor sheath (approx. as long as body) and largely ivory head, mesopleuron and metapleuron.

Hymenochaonia keithlangdoni is named to honor Mr. Keith Langdon of the US National Park Service for his initiation of the ongoing biodiversity inventory of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
