Hylaeogena Obenberger, 1923 View in CoL View at ENA

Hylaeogena Obenberger, 1923: 41 View in CoL .

Type Species. Hylaeogena cordieri Obenberger, 1923 View in CoL , by original designation.

Diagnosis. Front with epistoma more or less deeply emarginate, the ventral margin only partially carinate laterally, antennae inserted in distinct foveae, widely separated by shallow depression; short arcuate grooves interior to eyes above antennal depressions, groove with two pores, foveae for antennal insertions bordered by raised ridge, stronger on interior and ventral margins, with third pore on medial side ( Fig. 1 View Figs ); pronotum with weak prehumeral carinae; where present, setae on pronotum and elytra variable: very dense except in small areas or uniformly inconspicuous.

As treated here Hylaeogena (sensu stricto) contains only three species: H. speculum (= H. cordieri ), Hylaeogena capitata (Kerremans) , and the species newly described here. I have seen the types of H. cordieri and H. capitata and material of H. speculum determined by Kerremans. Hylaeogena appears more closely related to Hedwigiella than either is to the new genus. as discussed under the other two genera below. The three species of Hylaeogena as presently limited are from Brazil and Panama.
