Diagnosis. Most similar in general appearance to H. discedens , but lacks the notch in the prepectal carina, and has genal carina meeting oral carina at some distance from the base of the mandible. Among red-bodied species with dark hind coxae, yellow tegulae, pale fore trochanters, and a strongly patterned hind tibia, it can be distinguished by the presence of black maculation in the centre of all the abdominal tergites, and the lack of punctures on the mesopleuron.

Description (female). Fore wing length: 4 mm. Head: face about twice as broad as high, moderately coarsely granulate with punctures invisible, and sparsely covered with grey hairs; clypeus convex, 0.6x as wide as face, slightly more finely granulate than face, with extreme apex smooth and sharp; mandibles slightly tapered, with broad membranous flange on proximal two thirds of ventral edge, teeth equal in size; malar space equal to 0.8x basal width of mandible; genal carina joining hypostomal carina at some distance from base of mandible; frons, vertex and temples finely and evenly granulate; temples in dorsal view roundly narrowed behind eyes, descending almost vertically behind ocelli, in lateral view about equal to width of eyes; antenna slender and tapering, first flagellomere 3x as long as wide; 25–26 flagellomeres.

Mesosoma: mesoscutum finely and very evenly granulate, with sparse punctures visible under high magnification; notauli not present; upper mesopleuron striate, the striations becoming fainter towards the speculum, which is shining, but still with traces of striation; rest of mesopleuron finely granulate without visible punctures; epicnemial carina complete laterally and ventrally, without a central notch; metapleuron more coarsely granulate, with long grey setae; propodeum rather short, falling away strongly behind costulae; area basalis, area externa, and proximal end of area superomedia faintly and irregularly rugose; rest of propodeum strongly transversely rugose; carinae complete; area basalis elongate wedge-shaped; area superomedia elongate, not clearly separated from area petiolaris.

Wings narrow; 1 cu-a postfurcal; areolet stalked; nervellus vertical.

Metasoma: petiole of first tergite smooth and shining, postpetiole rounded, quadrate and finely granulate; glymma present; second tergite quadrate, remaining tergites transverse; second and third tergites finely granulate, remaining tergites finely and quite densely punctate; sixth tergite entire, seventh tergite slightly emarginate; ovipositor about equal to apical depth of metasoma, slightly curved upward apically, with a dorsal notch subapically.

Colour: black. Yellow: mandibles (with teeth dark brown), blotch on underside of scape, palps, tegulae, subalar ridge, fore coxa (sometimes), fore and mid trochanters and trochantelli, hind trochantellus; mid coxa often yellow to orange ventrally, brown dorsally, sometimes almost completely black; fore and mid legs and hind femur orange; hind tibia orange ventrally and mid-dorsally, brown dorsally subproximally and distally, with a clear yellow fleck dorsoproximally; hind basitarsus and tarsus 2 yellowish white, strongly darkened distally, hind tarsi 3–5 brown; metasomal tergite 2 with an orange band subapically; remaining tergites bright orange laterally, and often apically, with medial black patches of varying sizes at bases, or medially entirely black; second sternite yellow-orange, remaining sternites orange.
