Holotype M: French Guiana ( NE); coll. E. Abonnenc; date not provided; no. 61, 227, Ab 2.
Culex portesi was synonymized with Cx. vomerifer Komp by Lane (1951: 334) and resurrected from synonymy by Aitken & Galindo (1966: 202). The holotype, originally deposited in the LPFM, was established as non-extant by Belkin (1968: 53).
