Syntypes A (with associated larval and pupal exuviae): [Poste de] Saut Tigre, [Sinnamary River], French Guiana ( NE); coll. G. Senevet and E. Abonnenc; 20 Jan. 1938; no. G.975.

Culex rigidus was synonymized with Cx. corniger Theobald by Lane (1951: 334). The type series (two syntypes, one male and one female), originally deposited in the LPFM, was established as non-extant by Belkin (1968: 53).
