Holotype M: Moulin de Vidal , [Island of Cayenne], French Guiana ( MNHP *); coll. P. Fauran; 10 Nov. 1954; no. 941.

Culex vidali was synonymized with Cx. phlogistus Dyar by Fauran (1961: 5). This synonymy was recognized by Stone (1961: 47) but not by Knight & Stone (1977: 266). The holotype, originally deposited in the IPG, was transferred to the MNHP by Dégallier & Claustre (1980: 144).
