Comments. This is the type genus of the family, with a wide distribution on the planet, although without records in Australia, where it has been replaced by Teleogryllus Chopard, 1961 ( Chopard, 1961; Cigliano et al. 2021). Contains 101 species in two subgenera, the subgenus Gryllus with most species and Homaloblemus Saussure, 1877 with two African species with distinctly modified head ( Gorochov, 2001). They are known by the common name of Field Crickets, although it is a term used indiscriminately for members of the subfamily Gryllinae . A new species from the Caribbean and a preliminary analysis of the Latin American species are described below.
