(8) A. flavipes flavipes View in CoL versus A. minimus

Pelage: A. flavipes flavipes has finer (less coarse) fur than A. minimus .

External measurements: A. f. flavipes is smaller than A. minimus in absolute measurement (i.e., with no overlap in ranges) for no external measurements as far as we know. A. f. flavipes is significantly larger than A. minimus in tail-vent length for males and ear length for females, but significantly smaller than A. minimus for head-body length in females ( Table 2).

Skull: A. f. flavipes differs from A. minimus in absolute measurement (i.e., with no overlap in ranges) for the following skull/dentary characters: in males—larger M 2 W and M 2 W and smaller I 1 -P 3, in females—larger UML and M 2 W and smaller I 1 -P 3 and UPL. A. f. flavipes has numerous other dentary features that significantly (p<0.01) differ from A. minimus — 12 variables for males and 15 for females, as shown in Table 2.

Other Comments: A. f. flavipes females have 10–14 pouch nipples, whereas A. minimus females have 6–8 pouch nipples. A. f. flavipes is found in south-eastern Australia, across 4 states: Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia; A. minimus is known only from coastal Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Genetics: uncorrected pairwise range differences at the mitochondrial gene Cytochrome B (CytB) between A. f. flavipes and A. minimus are 14.5–15.3%.
