Ephialtes dux Tschek, 1869: 270 . Lectotype: female; TD: unknown. Ephialtes crassiceps Thomson, 1877: 732 –777. Type: lost.
Diagnosis. Body 14–20 mm; fore wing 11.5–15 mm; ovipositor 13.5–28.5 mm long.
Black. Palpi yellow. All coxae reddish black, darkened in basal part; rest part of legs reddish brown except hind tibia and tarsus dark brown. Antenna with 31–34 flagellomeres.
Head parallel, not narrowing behind eyes in dorsal view. Frons without short wrinkles. Malar space 0.3 × as long as mandible base. Pronotum with wrinkles on ventral area. Prepectal carina extending above corner of pronotum and curved forward, faintly reaching anterior margin of mesopleuron. Propodeum with convergent median longitudinal carina; lateral basal part of propodeum rugosely punctate, apical part of propodeum with transversal striae. Fifth hind tarsus as long as third tarsus. First and second tergites elongate, third tergite slightly elongate, and fourth tergite quadrate. Petiole with spiracle before the middle of petiole. Dorsal lobe of ovipositor with four ridges, steeply descending.

South Korea (new record), Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iran, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia (Irkutsk Oblast, Krasnoyarsk Kray, Primor'ye Kray, Sankt Petersburg), Serbia & Montenegro, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, Yugoslavia ( Yu et al., 2012).
Region. Eastern Palaearctic, Western Palaearctic.
Host. Rhagium inquisitor (Sheng et al. 2002; Sheng & Sun 2010), Saperda scalaris hieroglyphica , Tetropium fuscum ( Sheng & Sun 2010) .
