Known from the Afrotropical region. Exallonyx alticola var. parva RISBEC, 1950 is an available subgeneric name (ICZN 1999: Article 45.6.4), because RISBEC (1953) described only varieties. This species is probably a synonym of Exallonyx alticola KIEFFER, 1913 (TOWNES & TOWNES 1981: 299).
