Type data. S. americana : ex chicken, US, Texas, Dallas; N. entomyza : ex leatherhead ( Entomyzon cyanotis ), Australia, Queensland, Clermont District, Wolfgang.

Hosts. LAGOMORPHA : Sylvilagus sp.; AVES: Artamus minor , Caprimulgus macrurus bimaculatus , Colinus sp., Corvus orru cecilae , Cracticus torquatus , Entomyzon cyanotis , Gallus gallus domesticus , Gymnorhina tibicen , Manorina melanocephala , Monticola solitarius , Ninox connivens , N. novaeseelandiae , Ocyphaps lophotes , Pachycephala rufiventris , Podargus papuensis , Pomatostomus temporalis, Struthidia cinerea , Toxostoma curvirostre .

Distribution. Australia, Malaysia, Taiwan, US.

Remarks. 1. McClure (1987) recorded N. americana on 22 bird species in California; these records are not listed here.

2. Literature data on the occurrence of this species outside US can be attributed to N. solomonis , at least partly.
