Basidiocarp:— 5.2 cm, attached to substrate from corner or centre, slimy and thick, dark crenate margin; abhymenial surface greyish yellow (pinkish), 4B3 to violet brown, 10F7; hymenial surface greyish orange, 5B3 to violet brown, 10F6, reticulated.

Internal features: thickness 1160–1290 μm; medulla present; abhymenial hairs densely arranged, hyaline, blunt or pointed tip, thick walled, wall thickness 2.2–2.4 μm, clear lumen, septa observed, hair bases 6–10 μm wide; clamp connections present; zona pilosa 98–157 μm; zona compacta 21–32 μm; zona subcompacta superioris 55–65 μm; zona laxa superioris 345–395 μm; medulla 200–330 μm; zona laxa inferioris 90–235 μm; zona subcompacta inferioris 90–105 μm; hymenium 65–105 μm; basidia 38–56 × 4–5.5 μm, cylindrical, blunt or tapered ends, sterigmata observed; basidiospores smooth walled, allantoid, hyaline, (11.5)12.3–13(14) × (5)5.7–6.2(6.7) μm, ± SD = 12.6 ± 0.7 × 5.9 ± 0.5 μm, Q = 1.8–2.5, with irregularly shaped guttules.

Basidiocarp:— 2–5 cm, short stalks, orbicular to cupulate to auriculiform, free or undulate margins, semi-transparent, brownish orange, 5C5 to 7E6, ridges and veins seen on abhymenial surface, individual hairs clearly distinguishable, hairs not dense.

Internal features: thickness 340–700 μm; medulla present; abhymenial hairs scattered, non-gregarious, hyaline, acute tip, thin or thick walled, wall thickness 0.9–3.7 μm, clear lumen, septa observed, hair bases 5–11.5 μm wide, hair bases pigmented, light brown, plasmatic; clamp connections present; zona pilosa ≤80 μm; zona compacta 20–45 μm; zona subcompacta superioris 10–30 μm; zona laxa superioris 35–180 μm; medulla 30–100 μm; zona laxa inferioris 100–305 μm; zona subcompacta inferioris 20–80 μm; hymenium 45–80 μm; basidia 32–48 × 2.7–6.3 μm, cylindrical, tapered or blunt ends, transversely 3-septate, sterigmata observed; basidiospores smooth walled, allantoid, hyaline, (9.2)11.2– 11.7(13.1) × (4.1)4.9–5.1(5.7) μm, ± SD = 11.4 ± 0.9 × 5 ± 0.4 μm, Q = 1.8–2.8, with one or two large guttules.

Note:— Auricularia thailandica can be distinguished from other species of Auricularia that have short and clearly distinguishable abhymenial hairs of the basidiocarp. Among the species that have a medulla, the size of the zona pilosa of A. thailandica is similar to A. fibrillifera , A. fuscosuccinea , A. minor , A. minutissima , A. scissa and A. subglabra ( Bandara et al. 2015) . The abhymenial hairs of A. fuscosuccinea and A. scissa are gregarious and tufted ( Looney et al. 2013). Although A. minor , A. minutissima are characterized by short abhymenial hairs the basidiocarps are smaller ( Kobayashi 1981, Wu et al. 2015a) than A. thailandica . Auricularia fibrillifera is distinct from A. thailandica in having thick-walled, acute, free or partly fasciculate hairs and thinner zones ( Kobayashi 1981). Auricularia subglabra has solitary, infrequent hairs ( Looney et al. 2013). Auricularia subglabra can be distinguished from A. thailandica by the lack of abhymenial hairs, with only a few short hairs present at irregular intervals throughout the zona pilosa.

Basidiocarp:— 1–4 cm, substipitate to sessile, cupulate to auriculiform, undulate margin. yellow-brown, abhymenial surface very short hairs, not dense.

Internal features: thickness 485–580 μm; medulla absent; very short abhymenial hairs loosely arranged, hyaline, blunt tip, thick walled, wall thickness 2.2–4.1 μm, narrow lumen, hair bases 4–8 μm wide, hair bases pigmented, light brown, plasmatic; clamp connections present; zona pilosa ≤50 μm; zona compacta 9–18 μm; zona subcompacta superioris 13–33 μm; zona intermedia 280–420 μm; zona subcompacta inferioris 20–60 μm; hymenium 60–85 μm; basidia 50–57 × 7.4–7.6 μm, cylindrical, blunt or tapered ends, sterigmata observed; basidiospores smooth walled, allantoid, hyaline, (11.5)15.2– 18.5(19.5) × (6.1)6.7–8.1(9.4) μm, ± SD = 16.9 ± 2.3 × 7.4 ± 1.0 μm, Q = 1.9–2.6, with irregularly shaped guttules.
