Aeolothrips citricinctus was described from Morocco (Bagnall 1933) but subsequently recorded from various part of Europe (Mound 1968; zur Strassen 2003). Recently, Fallahzadeh et al. (2011) reported this thrips from Iran based on material identified by J. S. Bhatti as " Coleothrips near citricintus " (personal communication, Jalil Alavi with J. S. Bhatti, 2011) and as in A. balati , the report of this species from Fars Province is equivocal. No specimens have been examined by the present author.
